Looking Forward: Durian in Davao and Kadayawan Festival 2010

If last week was straight all OT work for hubby because his boss went on leave, at least this week, he is free the whole day unless he spends it sleeping! I look forward to this week because of the week long Kadayawan festivities in the city starting tomorrow until Sunday. Not much activities to go to though but at least I look forward to hunting for fruits! Name it – durian, lanzones, mangosteen, pomelo. These fruits are abundant around the city and they are so affordable these days. You just have to know where to find the cheapest yet delicious in taste fruits. Take note too that the Kadayawan Festival is an annual celebration featuring the durian in Davao City.

We have been buying and eating durian once in awhile from our suki along Torres Street, Davao City. It’s around P40 per kilo. We found out that they also have another “branch” LOL! And it is nearer our place just about 3 minutes away. Plus they introduced us to kanyaw (I am not sure of the spelling) variety said to be from Malaysia and which will be their entry to a contest on durian variety perhaps in the city. I googled for the spelling and found this “Kanyaw durian, Thailand’s best variety, is a light bearer with a thick fleshed, tasty fruit having less of the objectionable odor.” So it’s from Thailand not Malaysia as they told us.

I love this Kanyaw durian variety because it isn’t bitter and it’s delicious. It has more flesh than the native kind. This is good for those tourists in the city who wants to taste durian but doesn’t want the bitter ones. It doesn’t smell so much at all I noticed. But as the local people would believe, the bitter the taste the more delicious and better it is. I believe so and which makes me miss the native durian. But as I said this new variety which we just tasted and discovered recently is a good alternative when choosing the variety.

Why Women Have to Work Hard

August 15, 2010 Filed Under (Life, Thoughts) 38 views

Women especially mothers like me have to work hard because we cannot depend on our husbands for our needs and allowance. We are humans after all with needs and wants too. We have given up a lot of our freedom and simple pleasures in life to give way to the responsibilities of motherhood. If the husbands can only pay for the rent, and have no allocation for us stay at home moms in the monthly budget then we have to find ways to earn despite being stay at home moms. It hurts us when they don’t give us any rest day and even a small allowance. I hate having to cry and beg for it all the time and they don’t care if we are just overreacting and being so demanding. In the same way that nannies have a right to a PAID day off and paid their monthly salary, I think moms and wives deserved at least a rest day – our ME time to care for ourselves, to think for ourselves plus we deserve at least a small allowance that we need not beg from our husbands. Where did our giving, loving and caring boyfriends go when we married them?

If people think we are ranting then I guess they judge us as robots staying at home and not as humans too who also needs some space and rest and time for ourselves too! Husbands have no right to deprive that from their wives. We are not your slaves, we are wives and humans after all. We deserve care and love when we are sick, understanding when the hormones inside us are at war. We expect most the understanding and love from the man we married. But I think we lose them and they get lost in the process.

We also don’t deserve to be physically hurt and be pushed around. We have rights too. You just can’t own and get the money we worked hard for to save. Treat us with love and care just like before.

Let’s take a break and look at this what seems to me is a pedestrian lane near a school. This was just shared by one of my friends.

Cosmetology Education

August 11, 2010 Filed Under (Career, Education, Info) 59 views

As I have mentioned in my previous post that I had my hair cut last week. The salon that I went had this so called option for the customer to choose either a senior or a junior staff who will cut your hair. I wonder what would be the difference aside from their position and price of the hair cut. Anyway, I just chose the junior staff since I didn’t need any drastic changes in my haircut and I want to save too.

While the salon staff was doing work, my mind began to wonder what if they had undergone any cosmetology education like those being offered by cosmetology schools in Wichita or were they just trained by the Korean owner of the salon. Those schools are comprehensive and they will let you learn the beauty business from A to Z. Plus they have fully equipped and fabulous facilities just like those upscale salons. Sometimes I wonder what if I’d find time in the future for some Cosmetology Education and who knows we might venture into the salon business.

Shorter Hair

I had my hair cut after a long time Sunday last week. It was not such a drastic change though since about two to five inches was cut from my hair. Now I somehow wish for a shorter hair cut. I haven’t had a very straight, one-length short hair cut for the longest time! I miss having a very short hair which would mean less shampoo, less time to wash my hair, easier to manage my hair though the con would be I won’t be able to tie it well as it would grow longer after a few months. If only my hair would grow long in just about three months, I would want a very short hair cut by tomorrow.
