Looking Forward: Durian in Davao and Kadayawan Festival 2010

If last week was straight all OT work for hubby because his boss went on leave, at least this week, he is free the whole day unless he spends it sleeping! I look forward to this week because of the week long Kadayawan festivities in the city starting tomorrow until Sunday. Not much activities to go to though but at least I look forward to hunting for fruits! Name it – durian, lanzones, mangosteen, pomelo. These fruits are abundant around the city and they are so affordable these days. You just have to know where to find the cheapest yet delicious in taste fruits. Take note too that the Kadayawan Festival is an annual celebration featuring the durian in Davao City.

We have been buying and eating durian once in awhile from our suki along Torres Street, Davao City. It’s around P40 per kilo. We found out that they also have another “branch” LOL! And it is nearer our place just about 3 minutes away. Plus they introduced us to kanyaw (I am not sure of the spelling) variety said to be from Malaysia and which will be their entry to a contest on durian variety perhaps in the city. I googled for the spelling and found this “Kanyaw durian, Thailand’s best variety, is a light bearer with a thick fleshed, tasty fruit having less of the objectionable odor.” So it’s from Thailand not Malaysia as they told us.

I love this Kanyaw durian variety because it isn’t bitter and it’s delicious. It has more flesh than the native kind. This is good for those tourists in the city who wants to taste durian but doesn’t want the bitter ones. It doesn’t smell so much at all I noticed. But as the local people would believe, the bitter the taste the more delicious and better it is. I believe so and which makes me miss the native durian. But as I said this new variety which we just tasted and discovered recently is a good alternative when choosing the variety.

If We Do Get the Chance

Whenever the topic between hubby and me becomes about traveling and having a family vacation, one of the things that pop up in my head are those Disney vacations that I have come across quite a long time ago. It was actually hubby’s idea long before when what I had in mind was just to travel first to local destinations within the country but as more friends have gotten the opportunities to go to Disney as time goes by, though it still sounds like wishful thinking but we do hope one day we’ll find ourselves I mean me and my boys having one of those kind of vacations out of the country.

If we do get the chance one day, I hope that would be when the lil boy could really appreciate and remember the trip. It may not happen in a few years but if it does oh well I am sure that all of us will be truly excited to go on that trip. Those theme park vacations packages are sure to be so tempting to avail of. I know too that the lil boy then would have so much fun seeing the Disney characters he used to play with on games in his iPod Touch. If we do get the chance, I hope it will happen as soon as we are ready for a different kind of family vacation filled with excitement and adventure.

Cruisin’

The lil boy and I were outside checking on something we got out to dry. It was so hot outside and the sky was almost so clear. Looking up I said to myself this is a perfect day to be at the beach or go cruisin’ perhaps. I suddenly remembered the photos of someone I know who went cruisin’ during their one year wedding anniversary honeymoon with her hubby.

It would be nice to have that cruise experience just like the great deals offered by the Royal Caribbean cruise lines where you can enjoy five-star dining in grand dining rooms, a variety of musical entertainment, vegas-style casinos, incredible Broadway style shows, state of the art fitness areas and a lot more making sure that it will indeed be a vacation you’ll like no other! Imagine  how tempting it is to have an offer of cruise vacations with savings up to 60% off the brochure rates that comes with free travel insurance. I remember how our supposed to be cheaper promo air fare went up because we had to pay an additional amount for the travel insurance. Anyway, who’s up for some cruisin’ out there?

Wishing for a Vacation

I have been wishing for a vacation for me and the boys for this year. My online friend told me about a new promo fare of a local airline and I was happy to find for the first time available promo fares last night. I was so tempted to book right away as we have long been wanting to have a vacation. However recent changes in hubby’s office still cannot assure him if he would be allowed to take a vacation. I was willing to go on even just a two to three days vacation.

I know what he has in mind really is a family vacation that is out of the country but we know that is not possible yet to happen soon unless we get passports easily and as soon as possible. If we work out our passports soon, I am most willing to browse through again those Disney vacation packages that I found before. Many friend-bloggers and their families have gone on vacation to HK and they never missed making a visit to Disney a part of their vacation itinerary. I enjoyed looking at their pictures and it is inspiring us to save up if we can for such a kind of vacation for me and the boys. I actually want to put this plan of his on hold for awhile since I want us to go there when the lil boy is more grown up to truly appreciate and remember this family vacation there hopefully. But if it will happen soon then why not. Although even just a few days vacation to the capital is already worth wishing for. I’ll just have to wait and see this month if we could work it out and if the available promo fares are still there. I know that if there is a will then there is always a way!

Extended Plan

An extended service plan is what my friend’s hubby should get to make sure that they get to be assured that they will have continuous coverage in cases of rv repair just when their RV had a mechanical breakdown last month. They need to get a good mechanical breakdown insurance policy like that from Good Sam which will cover parts, labor and repairs to vehicles. She just shared to me awhile ago that they had some problems concerning that incident last month and her hubby seems to be so concerned about their previous insurance until now.  Well when you have an RV, I think you need to get a good insurance that will cover everything that needs to be fixed so couples won’t get so bothered by it when something goes wrong.
